COVID-19: AGREEING AND DISAGREEING WITH SIR KEIR STARMER

Sir Keir Starmer has written an article about how we should tackle COVID-19.

I totally agree with his objectives of getting the infection rate down, and being better prepared for a likely second wave.  Outdoors is safer, and infections will naturally increase as people head indoors for the winter.

I also totally agree with his assessment of the government’s poor response to date.

But I disagree with his proposed solutions for England:
  • I believe we should now have a light and short national lockdown in England, as justified here.  Messing around with local lockdowns is exactly that, a mess
  • Test, trace and isolate should focus on local surges.  The national scheme as currently set up isn’t working, and that is inherent.  I’ll explain in more detail in the next couple of days.

Now is the chance for PM Johson's government to show they are really in control, and bite the bullet.  A second national lockdown now, in August, before the schools are due to go back.
