COVID-19 can be transmitted by two main routes, but in this context also a third:
- Through the air on droplets of water on breath, coughs and sneezes from someone infectious. Also saliva
- Through touching something upon which virus has been left, and then touching mouth nose or eyes
- Viruses can also be found in faecal matter
QUESTIONS
Given the risks of COVID-19, especially for younger adults, several questions came to mind:
- Is it sensible to have sex if one partner has COVID-19? No. No kissing either
- What if neither partner has symptoms? Would wearing a mask or two help? You can be infectious before you display symptoms. So the risk is yours. Better to wear a mask.
- Would oral sex on a man risk transmitting the virus to the man's tackle? We know the virus attacks other organs that have cells with the ACE2 receptor, which is how the virus attacks the cells in the respiratory tract. These organs include heart, bladder, pancreas, kidney, and nose. There are even some in the eye and brain. No specific mention of penis, but unless specifically ruled out discretion is the better part of valour.
